Devereaux Tiger Forest
We designed the graphics for the new Devereaux Tiger Forest exhibition at the Detroit Zoo. This exhibition is the second exhibition we worked on for their Asian Forest area (the first one was the Red Panda Forest). This exhibition focuses on conservation, and how to help this endangered species.
For this exhibition we
Designed the layout, hierarchy, and illustrations for all the exhibition graphics
Created a consistent organizational structure throughout the exhibition
Collaborated closely with the Curator of Exhibit Design who developed the content messages and coordinated the content creation
Provided print ready files to their preferred printer
Focus on the tiger Habitat range
The purpose of this graphic to provide zoo visitors with information about different types of tigers and where they live in the wild. Additionally, we wanted to show how few tigers are left, what their threats are, and give visitors the tools needed to help reduce negative human impacts on tigers.
We used color coding to communicate which tigers are endangered, extinct in the wild, or extinct completely, and callouts to place the tigers within the map. We made the map the focal point of the graphic because the present day range compared to the historical range is so stark.
We designed the side panel to provide additional content without overwhelming the map with too much information.
Consistent Icons
We designed an icon for the tiger that is consistent with the icons featured in the Red Panda Forest exhibition. We wanted to tie these exhibitions together visually because they are both part of the Asian Forest area at the Zoo.
